Book Beats (“the App”) is developed and operated by Casey Doyle, trading as Olea Studios (“we”, “our”, or “us”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use the Book Beats mobile application. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal information in accordance with applicable privacy laws, including the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

Book Beats is designed to minimise personal data collection. Depending on how you use the App, we may collect the following types of information.
Information You Provide
You may voluntarily provide information when using certain features of the App, such as book
searches, barcode scans, or feedback requests. If you contact us directly, we may collect information
such as your email address and any information you include in your message.
Automatically Collected Information
When you use the App, certain technical information may be collected automatically, including device
type, operating system, app version, diagnostic information used to improve app performance, and
anonymized usage events. This information is used only to maintain and improve the App.
Camera Access
Book Beats may request permission to use your device camera for barcode scanning when adding books to your library. The camera is used only to scan ISBN barcodes and no images are stored or transmitted.
Apple Music Access
If you enable Apple Music features, the App may request permission to access Apple Music in order to display albums and tracks or link books with music playlists. Book Beats does not collect or store your Apple Music listening history.
2. Third-Party Services
• Firebase (Google): backend services, security (App Check), and crash diagnostics. • ISBNdb: retrieving book metadata using ISBN numbers. • Apple Music: retrieving album and artist information. • OpenAI: generating AI-powered content such as playlists inspired by books and reading summaries. When AI features are used, limited information such as book titles or prompts may be sent to OpenAI’s servers to generate the requested content. No personal account information is shared with OpenAI.

• Provide and operate the Book Beats app • Retrieve book and music data • Improve app performance and reliability • Diagnose crashes or bugs • Respond to user support requests We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information.
4. Data Storage
Book Beats stores most user data locally on your device. Some information may be temporarily processed by secure cloud services to fetch book metadata, retrieve music information, or maintain app security. We take reasonable steps to protect data from unauthorised access.
5. Affiliate Links
The App may contain links to external retailers such as Amazon or Bookshop.org. If you choose to make a purchase through these links, we may receive a small affiliate commission at no additional cost to you. These websites operate independently and are governed by their own privacy policies.
6. Data Retention
We retain information only for as long as necessary to operate the App and provide its features. If you delete the App, locally stored data will generally be removed from your device.
7. Children’s Privacy
Book Beats is not directed toward children under the age of 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
